あの『デス妻』に
またまた強烈なキャラが登場しましたね〜。
ホームから引き取った Orson の mom です。
彼女の前では、あの「Breeさま」でさえ
meek な little girl に見えてしまうし
あれほど treacherous っぽい Orson だって
ただの helpless child って感じ。
何と言っても、彼女を演じている女優さんがスゴイ。
文字にしてしまうと、どこの mother-in-law でも言ってそうなセリフが
ハンパなく（extraordinarily に）chilly になるんですから。
それでは早速、今週のエピソード Beautiful Girls から
そんな彼女の bitchy ぶりをご紹介しましょう。
場面は Bree の家。
家族でテーブルを囲んでいますが、Orsonのmom ( 以下Mom) が
まだ食卓についていません。
Bree:
Mother Hodge!
your food が cold になってしまいますわよ〜。
(Mother Hodge, your food will get cold! )
Mom:
なぜ the liquor cabinet に lock がかかってるの？
(Why, please, is there a lock on the liquor cabinet? )
Bree:
your doctor がおっしゃるには、
your medication を take している人は、
お酒を飲んではいけないそうですから。
(Because your doctor says
people taking your medication shouldn't drink. )
vodka bottle についていた lipstick が indication であるとすれば
御母様が ignore することになさった warning のことですわ。
(A warning you've chosen to ignore
if the lipstick on the vodka bottle is any indication. )
Mom:
またpoached fish なの?
(Poached fish again? )
こんなのいらないわ。
(I don't want this.)
みんなと同じ物が欲しいの。
(I want what you're all having.)
Bree:
your doctor が low-fat で low-sodium な diet を
指示していらっしゃるんですから。
(Well, your doctor has you on a low-fat, low-sodium diet. )
this week は eight meals で eight times も
the same thing を申し上げましたわ。
(Eight meals this week, eight times I've told you the same thing. )
誰が say grace してくれるのかしら？
(So, who'd like to say grace? )
Mom:
私がするわ。
(Allow me. )
神様、この bland で indifferently に prepare された meal に感謝します。

また、coldhearted な daughter-in-law に

Mom:

少なくともホームでは orderlies を bribe して
things を smuggle in できたのに。
(At least at the home you could bribe the orderlies
to smuggle things in. )
でも、ここじゃ commandant の前では nothing gets past だもの。

Bree:
なるべく happy で comfortable に過ごしていただけるように
できることは everything やってきましたわ。

わたしたちにどうしろとおっしゃるんですの？

Mom:
freedom が欲しいの。
(I want my freedom. )
こんな perky little gulag から出て

my own と call できる house に移りたいのさ。

で、（Orsonに向かって） それをあんたが buy するのよ。
(And you're going to buy it for me. )
Orson:
a house を buy するなんて afford できないよ。
(I can't afford to buy you a house. )
Mom:
buy しないなんてことは afford できないはずだよ。
(You can't afford not to. )
う〜ん、意味深な言葉です。
closet の中に、よっぽどすごい skeletons があるんでしょうね〜。
